Mt Cotton. Queensland
Mt Cotton Residence
Nestled within a majestic site, the Mt Cotton residence is situated within a protected nature reserve, perched at the peak of the landscape with gently sloping contours extending away from the home.
The Mt Cotton house features a linear plan, with key living and bedroom spaces oriented towards the north. The design incorporates balconies and terraces that embrace the Japanese concept of 'Engawa,' utilizing expansive overhangs to provide shade and enhance indoor comfort. The architecture is characterized by robust abutments that anchor the building at its edges, allowing the horizontal forms to appear as if they are floating.
Designed to integrate seamlessly with the dense tree canopy, the residence features permeable facades that open up to the natural backyard. This design approach blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating a fluid connection with the surrounding environment.
